Remembering Dawn Muzzerall 1959-2011

Here are the funeral arrangements for Dawn Muzzerall.
Funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday December 6 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Miramichi. There is no visitation.
Donations can be made in Dawn’s memory to the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada. The LSS, on behalf of Ludlow, will be making a donation in Dawn’s memory. If you wish to contribute to the donation please contact any member of the exec or look for a donation box set up in the lounge. Donations should be made by Wednesday morning (10am) to be included in the LSS general donation.

12:00 PMYou must have one application for each firm that intend to apply to. Each application should be in its own manila envelope and addressed as though you were going to mail it, but without postage. Ideally, you will have printed address and return address labels. If you must handwrite the envelope, be sure that your writing is very, very neat. If you have terrible handwriting (as I do), get a friend to help.
Note that McInnes Cooper now uses an on-line application system – so if you are applying to McInnes Cooper, you must do so on-line. The link to the McInnes Cooper on-line application is: http://www.mcinnescooper.com/students/

You must do research on each firm’s website to find out what they would like included in their application. At the very least, and for firms that do not list their requirements, each firm will require:
1. a concisely written cover letter tailored to each employer – it should not be a boilerplate “please find enclosed” letter.
2. a resume;
3. and photocopies of official transcripts for law and undergraduate marks.Be sure to check on each firm’s website, however, since some require references, letters of reference and/or writing samples.
On the issue of transcripts:
1. You might not have all of your marks back yet from the December exams – that is ok – give them what you have.2. There are no transcripts for first year students. You will need to generate a list yourself with a note on it explaining that there are no transcripts for 1st year, mid term marks. Don’t worry – the firms are accustomed to this.
3. You should order your transcripts from your undergrad now to ensure that you have them in time for the application deadline.

12:00 PMLawyers from the regional firm Stewart McKelvey will present on effective interviewing techniques in the legal industry. This is an excellent opportunity to hear from actual legal employers/recruiters what they are looking for in law student interviews.

11:00 AM – 12:00 PMThe CSO is hosting an etiquette seminar on Friday, January 13th at 11:00 am, Room 2A, Ludlow Hall.
Clea Ward will cover the do’s and don’ts of attire, receptions, dinners and interviews.All students from all years are welcome and encouraged to attend.
