Raising a Glass in Memory of Dawn Muzzerall

December 5, 2011 by The LSS

As many of us are unable to travel to Miramichi to attend the funeral, we thought it would be nice to gather to share stories and toast the life of Dawn Muzzerall – a Ludlow way to celebrate the life of our amazing classmate and her zest for life!

Join us @ 2pm on Tuesday, December 6, at the Grad House.

Message from the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers

by The LSS

We are looking for interested students who would like to become involved with the newly formed Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL).
The Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers, formed on September 9, 2011, is an exciting new organization of refugee lawyers and academics who are passionate about advocating on behalf of asylum seekers and migrants. One of our first tasks has been to develop
submissions on the proposed anti-human smuggling legislation, Bill C-4.  So far, our Legal Research Committee has produced a paper on the unconstitutionality of the legislation, and our Advocacy Committee has met with parliamentarians to discuss concerns with the Bill and to make arrangements to appear before the Public Safety Committee.
Now that the organization is up and running, we would like to reach out to law students across Canada. We would like to establish a contact person or group at every law school in Canada to organize and maintain CARL’s student membership and to coordinate student
involvement. We expect that CARL will be involved in court interventions, submissions to parliamentary committees, and public advocacy on topical immigration and refugee issues.
Interested students can contact Caitlin Maxwell atcmaxwell@bjackman.com. For more about CARL, please visit our website at http://www.refugeelawyersgroup.ca/.
